“How did your pageant go?“ “I heard you did really well in your pageant.” The number of times I was asked similar questions was a surprise. I was grateful that people were curious about the program. I knew friends and family were keeping up with me while I was away, which was comforting. However, each time the word “pageant” slipped out of someone’s mouth, I had the sudden urge to correct them. The Junior Miss Program, which is now referred to as the Distinguished Young Women (DYW) Program is no pageant. Though there are a few similarities, this program is so much more.

A gun can be a very dangerous object to all living things, but what object created by man is not dangerous? What inventions has man created that does not have many dangers and even the probability of death occurring. Most things we have created have their big positives and their big negatives. Guns, if in the wrong hands, are a very dangerous thing, but in the right hands a very good thing. Many peoples livelihood depends on a gun, unlike some who get one to be cool or to look tough. We should not have our guns taken away, but instead the gun seller should be able to do more and deeper background checks, even have papers of making sure the person is not criminal insane from a doctor before they sell the gun to a person.

The future of our nation depends on the education that our young people are getting now. When you think of our school system does this scare you? While private schools may be a good option for gifted kids, they are not an option for many. Public schools are concerned with making sure they don’t leave any children behind, but they are not letting kids excel. Beauty: “The quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit” –Webster’s Dictionary. Our minds have been trained to think that there is only one real “beauty”. Question yourself, what really is beauty known as? When you are looking through a magazine or watching a commercial, that is advertising “real” beauty. What you think beauty is, is determined by what the staggering eyes of society thinks? God said that all of His children are beautiful. That means if you’re a whopping two hundred pounds or you are basically skin and bones, He loves you. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, not of society.

January 16th 2013 President Obama unveiled his package of gun control proposals. Of course these proposals caused many arguments. I for one believe that guns should not be taken away. Their may be good results if this law is passed, but I assure you there will be some bad as well. Taking away someone’s personal belongs will of course make them mad, and feel less safe. I personally believe if our president is surrounded by armed officers at all times, we should at least be allowed to keep our guns.
